The History and Future of Eurorack Modular Synths with Doepfer by @DivKid and @Flixxx

Early contributors to this blog DivKid and Felix from the Tuesday Night Machine finally had the time to have a talk with Dieter Doepfer at a  recent Thomann event...

" A rare moment of free time and having great people in the right place at the right time here's an interview with Felix of Tuesday Night Machines talking to Dieter Doepfer, THE CREATOR OF EURORACK at the Thomann Synth Reactor #TSR19 event.

Felix and I wanted to chat to Doepfer about both his history (the history or Eurorack), his current polyphonic modules, future module sand ideas and a quick look at what the future of the Eurorack might be.
We also talk about the Elektor Formant DIY synth, the new Frequency Shifter module coming later this year, CV controlled LED lighting, Dieter was also the EU distributor for Doug Curtis' Curtis chips/components, Raul's World of Synths, favourite Doepfer modules and plenty more. "

Ladik EQ-5 / E-110 5-Band EQ Demo Video by @DivKid

DivKid's latest video shows you all the details of the Ladik EQ-5 / E-110 5-Band Equalizer... Enjoy!

Video: LADIK - EQ-5 / E-110 5-Band EQ

"A dirty cheap (picked it up for £32, new they are less than £50) 5 band EQ from LADIK. The module has +/- 12dB EQ at 12.8kHz, 3.2kHz, 800Hz, 200Hz and 50Hz. Really nice to have some proper EQ shaping in my set up.
As always hit subscribe and like for more videos every week and ask any questions in the comments."

Analogue Solutions Telemark Multimode Filter

Analogue Solutions just released their Telemark Multimode Filter module, a eurorack module based on the Telemark multimode filter.

The Telemark multimode filter module is based on the filter of the legendary Telemark semi-modular synthesizer.
It's routes lie in the original 1970s Oberheim SEM, though it has developed a character of its own.
The filter is a 12db/Octave multimode type. Multimode means there are more than one type of filter output.
There are in fact four: low pass, band pass, high pass and notch filter.
Additionally, notch filter can be varied for an even wider range of sounds.
Use of Gain and Q allow for even wider possibilities.
No special knowledge is required to use this filter. Just plug your audio in the left, and your audio out on the right.
Optionally (and recommended!) patch a control voltage in to give the sound movement.

KEY FEATURES OF TMF
- Pure analogue circuitry.
- Telemark filter
- 4 filter types- Low, High, Band, Notch
- Resonance (Q) boost feature
- Slim design
- Spun metal knob caps

DivKid made another great video demonstrating the module;

Animodule TikTok Clock Multiplier and Divider Overview by DivKid

Animodule
TikTok
DivKid uploaded an overview video about the Animodule TikTok.

The TikTok is a 4HP Clock Divider/Multiplier that calculates divisions and multiplications of:
*//2 , *//3 , *//4 , *//5 ,and *//6

There is a Clk Input and a Reset Input.
Both are buffered with an opamp based comparator circuit.
They are looking for approximately +1.1V on a rising edge.
This means that you are not constrained to gate (pulse) signals to trigger them.

The Reset input resets your divisions clock counter to 1
There is a switch to select Mathematical or Musical divisions.
The Multiplication Outputs 25MS Trigger pulses.
The Division Outputs are on as long as your Clock source.

- Avg Current draw:
40 mA / -9 mA
- Peak Current Draw:
80 mA / -17 mA
Width = 4HP
Depth = 38mm

Medic Modules Cranial Saw Dual VCO Overview by @DivKid

I really like the Video tutorials by DivKid.
Here's another one he did, about the Medic Modules Cranial Saw.
I blogged about this module earlier, find that blogpost at http://patchpierre.blogspot.nl/2014/10/medic-modules-cranial-saw-advanced-vco.html

Mutable Instruments Peaks Demo by DivKid

Another lnice and long Eurorack demo by DivKid, demonstrating the multifuncional Mutable Instruments Peaks module.

" Peaks is a multi-function module, but the general rule is that cool things happen whenever a trigger
is received. Its four main functions are:
Envelope generator – the gate/trigger input starts and holds the envelope.
LFO – the gate/trigger input resets the waveform cycle.
LFO with tap-tempo synchronization – the gate/trigger input sets the period of the LFO oscillations. Note that Peaks can “learn” irregular trigger sequences and lock onto them.
Drum generator – the gate/trigger input triggers the drum sound.

Peaks provides two channels of processing – each of them has a gate/trigger input jack, a gate/trigger button with an output indication LED, and an audio/CV output. Both channels provide the same function – the exception being channel 1′s drum generator being a bass drum generator, and channel 2′s drum generator being a snare drum/hi-hat generator.

Both channels can be “synchronized” (aka twin mode), in that they both share the same front panel controls – for example in ADSR envelope mode, the first knob will control both channel 1 and channel 2′s attack time. This can be used not only to create duophonic patches (for which you actually want both channels to behave similarly), but also to obtain two synchronized outputs of the same LFO waveform with different phase shifts…

Another way of controlling the module is the split mode in which the potentiometers 1 and 2 control channel 1′s settings; and the potentiometers 3 and 4 control channel 2′s settings. This mode only gives access to the 2 most essential parameters of each function (for example attack and decay time for an envelope) – the other parameters being set to default “neutral” settings.

Finally, if breaking the one knob per function rule is not a taboo for you, an expert mode allows individual control of channel 1 and 2."

" Another hugely feature packed module from Mutable Instruments! Peaks has 4 modes with envelopes, LFOs, Tap-LFOs and drums then an additional 4 'hidden' modes which are a mini step sequencer, trigger delay and repeater, trigger stream randomiser and a dual Anushri style synth drum generator.
As always all comments are welcome!

As mentioned in the video here is the Branches overview video so you can check that out as it's used for several patches in the video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVKx_..."

Animodule SOB Filter Videos by @DivKid

It's good to see that more and more people start making really interesting Eurorack tutorial videos lately.
DivKid started a new series last month but i kinda missed it back then.
Here's a nice set of videos with Animodule SOB Filter tutorials.

Video 1: EURORACK MODULE - Animodule - SOB Filter Part 1

" The Animodule SOB filter is a pretty amazing bit of kit, 2 inputs that can clip with a wavefolder, state variable filter and tonnes of personality and character. It can handle smooth well but for me excels at more driven and characterful filtering. It also passes CV acting as a slew limiter and self oscillates creating a crude oscillator, some heavy percussive thumps and hardcore kicks along with going really slow to make for a useful LFO should you run out mid patch.
Subscribe to the channel for more and always feel free to comment."

Video 2: EURORACK MODULE - Animodule - SOB Filter Part 2

" Here's part 2 of the SOB Filter overview video. The SOB is a great state variable filter (with built in wavefolder) for eurorack modular systems from AniModule.
Any questions or anything feel free to comment."

Video 3: EURORACK MODULE - AniModule - SOB Filter's Wavefolder
" Here's a more in depth look at the wavefolder built into the AniModule SOB filter. It's a great filter but (hopefully) as you'll see in the video the wavefolder is great too. Here's some oscilloscope action of analogue waveforms (static and amplitude modulated) going into the unit with external and internal mixing along with modulation to create some moving and morphing wavefolding.
